We fully recognize and appreciate the weight of your responsibilities and the commitment you bring to upholding justice and protecting the community. The role of your office in ensuring accountability and fairness is vital, and we do not take lightly the seriousness of the charges involved. 

However, we ask that you consider the broader context surrounding this case of Richard Hoesing. While the harm caused is undeniable and the suffering of Jean, the victim, must be honored, it is crucial to evaluate whether mitigating circumstances exist that may have influenced Richard's actions on that fateful day.

Richard Hoesing has spent his life contributing positively to our society. Known in the community as a hardworking, honest, and compassionate individual, Richard has always upheld the values we admire in citizens. His family and friends describe him as a gentle soul, a person who has consistently offered support to those in need and demonstrated kindness in every aspect of his life. It is hard to reconcile this man's previous behavior with the tragic events he is now accused of.

The family of Richard Hoesing emphasizes that this review is not being sought to diminish the gravity of the situation or to escape accountability. Instead, it seeks a path to a fair trial that accounts for all aspects leading up to the incident, possibly re-evaluating the charge from first-degree murder to a charge that more appropriately reflects the circumstances of that tragic day.

Dallas County upholds its duty to serve justice, and part of that duty includes revisiting decisions when new information or perspectives emerge.
