The Issue

Due to concerns about potential negative outcomes, some students prefer not to publicly share their identities when supporting this petition. Many students feel uneasy about speaking out because there is a concern that students who raise issues might face unfair treatment, disciplinary action, or social repercussions. These fears have contributed to many students choosing to remain silent despite ongoing concerns.

We, the undersigned students and community members, request that Woburn Memorial High School and the Woburn Public Schools administration conduct a thorough review of a specific staff member’s professional conduct due to recurring concerns related to student safety, professionalism, fairness, and equity.

Students have observed and reported concerns about unequal treatment, particularly involving students of color. Additionally, some students have raised concerns about how reports of discriminatory incidents, including racial slurs, have been handled—with some feeling these situations were downplayed or inadequately addressed.

Further, students have voiced concerns that reports of inappropriate student conduct, including unwanted physical contact, have not been treated with the seriousness they deserve. Some students feel that these concerns were not fully investigated, leading to a sense of being unsupported or unsafe.

There are also concerns about professionalism and confidentiality. Some students have noted that private matters are discussed inappropriately with others in the community, which they feel has impacted their social relationships and well-being.

Finally, some students perceive a pattern of favoritism, where certain students appear to receive more leniency while others face harsher treatment. This has contributed to a sense of unfairness and distress within the school environment.

We believe that all students deserve a safe, respectful, and equitable environment, and we request a formal review to ensure accountability, student safety, and equal treatment. We hope that by raising these concerns, the school environment can improve for everyone.

We encourage any student who has experienced or witnessed similar situations to come forward, whether publicly or anonymously, so that these issues can be addressed. We recognize that many students fear retaliation, but we believe their voices are crucial to creating a more transparent, supportive, and safe school environment.
