Petition for Adequate Car Parking Facilities at The Tyrrelstown Public Park

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, visitors of the park and members of the local clubs, hereby petition the Fingal County Council to explore viable solutions to address the parking shortfall at Tyrrelstown Public Park in light of the newly constructed Kilmartin Grove Homes.

The Tyrrelstown Public Park serves as a vital recreational and sports hub for the local community, offering amenities such as grass pitches for football and GAA matches, as well as facilities for cricket and other outdoor activities. However, the recent surge in visitors to the park, coupled with the lack of designated parking spaces, has resulted in significant congestion and inconvenience for local residents and park visitors alike. This issue stems from various factors, including:

  1. Confusion Over Parking Allocation: Tyrrelstown's numbered parking system is not widely understood by visitors, resulting in unintended occupancy of residents' private parking spaces.
  2. Insufficient Visitor Parking: During sports matches and recreational activities, the limited number of visitor parking spots quickly fill up, leaving no available spaces for those visiting local residents.
  3. Disruption to Aesthetics: Improperly parked vehicles, including those on grass verges, not only detract from the visual appeal of the park but also contribute to environmental damage, detracting from the park's visual appeal and creating unsightly puddles when it rains.

The implementation of adequate car parking facilities at Tyrrelstown Public Park is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it would alleviate the burden on residents who often find themselves unable to access their designated parking spaces due to overflow from park visitors, leading to frustration and inconvenience. Secondly, it would greatly benefit the local sports clubs, including Tyrrelstown Football Club, Tyrrelstown GAA, and Tyrrelstown Cricket Club, whose members often have to carry heavy gear to and from the park for matches and training sessions Currently, the nearest available parking options are at the Tyrrelstown Community Centre or Le Cheile Secondary School, both of which are inconveniently distant from the park, requiring members to carry their equipment over long distances.

Moreover, the provision of sufficient parking facilities would also cater to the needs of parents who bring their children to the park for training sessions or sports matches held on the grass pitches and GAA pitches or for merely a stroll from nearby estates. The lack of convenient parking options adds unnecessary strain to their already busy schedules.

In conclusion, addressing the issue of inadequate car parking at Tyrrelstown Public Park is not only a matter of convenience but also of safety and community well-being. We urge the Fingal County Council to work collaboratively with Glenveagh and other relevant stakeholders to identify viable solutions and expedite the construction of adequate parking facilities at Tyrrelstown Public Park.

Yours sincerely,
@TheSCRedemption
