Petition for a Traditional, Inclusive Playground at Northwater at Two Rivers
The Issue
As residents and families of Northwater at Two Rivers, we are proud to be part of a growing, vibrant community. We are excited to see our neighborhood coming to life. But we are reaching out with a heartfelt concern about the newly installed playground — a space that, sadly, many of our children cannot use.
The current playground, which includes only a climbing structure, a disk swing, and a spinning bowl, does not meet the needs of most of our families. It is not safe or accessible for toddlers, babies, younger children, or kids with disabilities. It leaves out the very children who most need a safe and welcoming place to play, grow, and connect.
Many of us have young children who light up at the idea of going to a playground. Yet when we arrive, there is little to nothing they can enjoy. There are no traditional swings, no slides, no safe climbing areas — just equipment that is too difficult or too dangerous for little ones. And there is nothing for children with mobility challenges to experience and enjoy alongside their peers.
Playgrounds are more than just equipment. They are where children build confidence, make friends, and create their happiest memories. A real, traditional playground — with slides, swings, toddler-safe areas, and inclusive play options — brings families together and strengthens the spirit of a community.
We are simply asking for a true playground:
• Slides
• Traditional swings and toddler swings
• Toddler-friendly climbing structures
• Ground surfacing that is safe and accessible for all abilities
Not something extravagant. Not something fancy. Just a real, welcoming playground that all our children — of all ages and abilities — can enjoy safely and happily.
We live in a more rural area, far from other parks and playgrounds. Our neighborhood playground should be a place where all children feel they belong, where they are included, and where they are safe. Right now, it isn’t. But it could be.
Please hear our voices. We are not asking for luxury — we are asking for community, for inclusion, and for the joy of childhood to be right here at home.
Thank you for your time, your understanding, and for helping us create a neighborhood where every family truly feels welcome.
Sincerely,
The Families of Northwater at Two Rivers
