PETITION FOR A RETURN TO A TRANSPARENT HEALTH RECRUITMENT SYSTEM IN GHANA 🇬🇭🩺

PETITION FOR A RETURN TO A TRANSPARENT HEALTH RECRUITMENT SYSTEM IN GHANA 🇬🇭🩺
The Issue
We, the undersigned health professionals, graduates, and concerned citizens of Ghana, respectfully call on the Ministry of Health Ghana and all relevant authorities to urgently review the current health recruitment system and restore a more transparent, fair, and accountable recruitment process.
Over the years, the current recruitment system has generated widespread concerns among qualified health professionals across the country. Many applicants continue to express frustration over the lack of transparency, inconsistent communication, alleged favoritism, uncertainty surrounding recruitment procedures, and the growing spread of misinformation, fake recruitment links, and recruitment scams.
A significant number of health professionals strongly believe that the previous recruitment approach offered greater clarity, accessibility, fairness, and public confidence compared to the current system, which many believe has repeatedly created false hope and uncertainty for qualified applicants.
We therefore respectfully petition for:
◾️ A return to a more open, transparent, and verifiable recruitment process.
◾️ Equal opportunity for all qualified applicants, regardless of connections or influence.
◾️ Clear communication and timely official updates throughout recruitment periods.
◾️ Public accountability and transparency in applicant selection processes.
◾️ Strong measures against recruitment fraud, fake links, and unofficial intermediaries.
◾️ Stakeholder engagement with nursing and allied health professional groups when designing recruitment systems.
During the launch and celebration of International Nurses Day on May 12, 2026, the President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, emphasized the urgent need to improve conditions within Ghana’s healthcare system, stating:
“The least we can do is to tap their backs and say you have done well, and the best we can do as a nation is to go fix the system… Let’s invest in health and in our health workers because any one of us can become a patient at any time.”
Similarly, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, represented the Minister of Health and highlighted the importance of prioritizing the welfare of health workers by asking:
“Who takes care of the health worker?”
We strongly believe that one of the major solutions to improving healthcare delivery in Ghana is reducing the nurse-to-patient ratio through the employment of more qualified nurses and health professionals.
Across many healthcare facilities in Ghana today, understaffed wards continue to place enormous pressure on the few available nurses, increasing fatigue, burnout, stress, and the risk of preventable errors in patient care.
Many of these challenges can be minimized when health workers are allowed to work under humane conditions with adequate staffing and support, rather than under overwhelming stress and exhaustion.
This petition is not intended to create division or hostility, but rather to promote constructive reform that protects merit, restores public trust, strengthens Ghana’s healthcare workforce, and ultimately improves patient care across the country.
A fair and transparent recruitment system is essential to national development, professional morale, and quality healthcare delivery.
Together, we stand for integrity, transparency, accountability, and equal opportunity for every deserving health professional in Ghana.
