Dear Supporters,

We have officially crossed 2,000 signatures, and every single one of you has added your voice to something much bigger than a petition — you've added your voice to a movement for fairness, due process, and justice for Terrence Cumber.

Your stories, questions, and heartfelt comments have not gone unnoticed. We’ve read every word, and we want to say thank you — not only for standing up for Terrence but for speaking truth to power.
A motion for a new trial is now publicly listed on the court docket, but that alone doesn’t guarantee justice will be served — it’s up to all of us to keep the pressure on and make sure this case gets the fair review it deserves.

“Does this mean you're justifying what happened?”
Absolutely not. A life was lost, and we acknowledge that pain. But justice must be rooted in truth, context, and legal consistency. When intent is missing, when actions are immediate and reactive, and when the defense of another person is involved, the law must reflect that nuance. This is why a retrial is essential—not to erase accountability, but to ensure it fits the facts.

What You’re Saying
Your comments have brought forward critical truths, and we want to uplift some of the key themes that keep emerging from the community:

“Self-defense is not murder.”
“If defending yourself is felony murder, there should be more people locked up for the same thing... It’s not felony murder.”
“Stand your ground. Enough said.”
“If this is punishment for self-defense, they need to get rid of the laws altogether.”

Terrence was acquitted of malice murder, which tells us the jury did not believe he intended to kill. But despite this, he received a life sentence under a felony murder conviction—a charge that doesn’t align with the circumstances. This case was not premeditated violence—it was a reaction to being followed.

“Why isn’t this getting the attention it deserves?”
“Augusta is screaming about a ‘pretty girl’ but silent on Terrence.”
“Why is this case being held so quietly?”
“I personally had my post removed when I shared this petition.”
Your frustration is valid. There has been an alarming lack of media coverage, even though this case has serious implications for how self-defense is interpreted in Georgia. This silence is not a coincidence—and your advocacy is helping break that silence.

“There are similar cases with different outcomes.”
“There’s a case in Augusta where the charges were dropped. It was the same situation, different outcome.”
“He got bond because it looked like self-defense, but ended up with life anyway. How?”

This is what we mean by inconsistent application of justice. When similar situations yield wildly different outcomes, it’s a sign that systemic bias, public perception, or flawed processes may be at play. That’s why we are asking for a retrial—not a pass, not special treatment, but a fair, thorough reconsideration of the facts.

“The community sees the truth.”
“I was in the courtroom. Terrence was NOT the aggressor.”
“Met Terrence a few times — never heard a bad word about him.”
“He defended himself and two others. He had no obligation to fight.”
We’re especially moved by comments from people who knew Terrence personally or who witnessed the trial. Your voices are helping clarify what the headlines haven’t: this wasn’t a cold-blooded act — it was a split-second decision in a chaotic moment, made in defense of self and others.

Speak Up — Your Voice Matters
Now more than ever, we need people willing to speak up against injustice. Whether it’s through a signature, a shared post, a phone call to a representative, or even a peaceful protest, your voice makes a difference.

Injustice thrives in silence—but it crumbles when people refuse to look away.

If this case has opened your eyes or moved your heart, don’t stop here. Keep speaking out. Keep questioning broken systems. Keep demanding better—not just for Terrence, but for anyone who could find themselves in the same position.

Because if we don’t defend each other’s rights, we risk losing our own.

Final Words from the Community
We want to end with a few words directly from you all:

“This is not a case of if he did it — this is a case of why he did it.”
“If they take away his right to defend himself, they can take yours too.”
“Prison is for rehabilitation. What is there to rehabilitate when someone acted to protect?”
“Let Terrence walk. He did nothing wrong.”

We stand by these words—and we stand with Terrence Cumber.

Please keep sharing the petition, speaking up, and calling for accountability. A retrial is not just about one man—it’s about ensuring justice works for everyone.
