Petition LaSalle Causeway

The Causeway is a federally owned and operated bridge - a vital connection between downtown Kingston, CFB Kingston, RMC, Kingston Health Sciences Centre, the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario, eastern neighbourhoods and HWY 401.

In 2025 there were 25 planned full closures and 2 unplanned closures costing the federal government approximately $3M per year - residents, businesses, emergency services, students, workers, and armed forces personnel continue to face constant disruption, longer travel times, and safety concerns. This bridge is a critical connection for our city, one that people depend on every day and we urge the Government of Canada to act with urgency and leadership to deliver a lasting solution for Kingston. We are calling on the federal government to:

-Commit to a clear plan for a permanent solution for the Causeway
-Accelerate timelines for design, approvals, and construction of a permanent bridge
-Ensure the new dynamic bridge meets modern safety, reliability, and environmental standards
-Continue to engage with the city and the public through regular updates
-Fully fund the new bridge without shifting costs to the municipality

While the government continues to work on a permanent bridge, Kingston needs a temporary dynamic solution to restore reliable access and predictability for residents and the marine industry. The Federal Government needs to work with partners to consider creative options that can be implemented quickly to address the immediate need while working through the long term solution.
