Petition for a Four-Way Stop Sign at the Intersection of Lone Star Parkway and Wise Trail

Alamo Ranch, Bexar County, Texas

To: Bexar County Commissioners and Traffic Safety Officials

We, the undersigned residents of Alamo Ranch and concerned citizens of Bexar County, Texas, respectfully petition for the installation of a four-way stop sign at the intersection of Lone Star Parkway and Wise Trail here in Alamo Ranch.

Purpose of the Petition:

The intersection at Lone Star Parkway and Wise Trail serves as the primary entrance and exit for residents of the Trails community section for The Preserve at Alamo Ranch. This area experiences significant congestion and safety concerns, particularly during school hours. The current traffic situation has become increasingly hazardous due to:

1. Heavy School Traffic: During morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups, the intersection sees a substantial increase in vehicular and pedestrian traffic as parents, school buses, and young drivers navigate the area.

2. Limited Access Point: With only one entry and exit for this community, the congestion intensifies, creating delays and often encouraging drivers to ignore traffic rules. This compromises the ability of residents to safely enter and exit the community, especially during peak school hours.

3. Safety Risks for Young Drivers and Pedestrians: Many young drivers, including recently licensed teens, face challenges as they try to safely exit the neighborhood. The combination of traffic volume and drivers failing to observe current signage has led to numerous near-accidents, heightening concern among parents and residents for the safety of all drivers and pedestrians at the intersection.

Why a Four-Way Stop is Necessary:

Installing a four-way stop at this critical intersection will help to:

- Enhance Traffic Control: A four-way stop would enforce the necessary pauses for vehicles entering and exiting the neighborhood, reducing the likelihood of accidents.

- Improve Pedestrian Safety: Many students and families cross this intersection before and after school. A four-way stop will make these crossings significantly safer.

- Alleviate Congestion and Encourage Compliance: Clear, enforced stopping points at each entry to the intersection would improve the flow of traffic while encouraging adherence to safe driving practices.

Community Support:

We, the residents and supporters, believe that a four-way stop is essential to safeguarding our community. We have come together to sign this petition in hopes that Bexar County officials will prioritize our safety by implementing this crucial improvement in Alamo Ranch.
