Without a public vote or direct ballot measure, the City of Gresham transitioned our municipal water supply away from Bull Run surface water to 100% groundwater from the Sand and Gravel Aquifer. Since this transition, residents across Gresham have noticed a significant drop in water quality, including harsh chlorine smells, metallic/mineral taste, hard water mineral buildup, and a noticeable change in tap water usability.  

We, the undersigned residents and ratepayers of Gresham, demand that the City of Gresham re-evaluate its water supply agreement, prioritize resident satisfaction, and restore access to Bull Run water as our primary drinking water source.

Why This Matters

1. No Direct Public Input: A fundamental decision altering the daily drinking water of an entire city was made administratively and through council approval without putting the decision to a community vote.

2. Quality of Life Impact: Bull Run water is renowned for being soft, clean, and unpolluted. Switching to groundwater has introduced higher mineral hardness (causing spots, scale buildup, and reduced soap lather) and a distinct chemical taste/smell due to the shift in treatment chemicals.  

3. Resident Choice: Rates and infrastructure decisions should serve the community's preferences. Residents deserve a say in the source and quality of the water flowing into their homes.
