The Issue

The Bandhwari landfill has grown into a 30-acre toxic waste mountain, receiving over 2,000 tonnes of mixed garbage every day. It now holds more than 3 million tonnes of waste, contaminating groundwater, polluting air, damaging the Aravalli ecosystem, and exposing nearby communities to dangerous gases, fires, and disease.

Bandhwari’s untreated leachate has already entered local water sources, and landfill fires release toxic fumes that residents—including children—breathe daily. This is not just an eyesore; it is a public-health emergency.

India needs a long-term, scientific solution, not temporary clean-ups.

A Proven Model Exists

Singapore processes 2.5 million tonnes of waste every year, sends almost no trash to landfills, and generates electricity for about 900,000 households using waste-to-energy (WTE) technology. Their system reduces waste volume by 90 percent, uses multi-stage filtration to clean emissions, and safely stores remaining ash on an engineered, pollution-proof island. This model keeps cities clean, breathable, and sustainable.

India can replicate this. Waste-to-energy plants have worked successfully in many countries. We can transform waste into clean energy and permanently eliminate landfill overload.

What We Want

We urge the Government of India and the Haryana authorities to:

  1. Declare the Bandhwari landfill a priority environmental hazard.
Clean up the existing Bandhwari landfill through waste-to-energy technology and scientific processing.
  2. Fast-track the establishment of new waste-to-energy plants with strict emission controls.
  3. Implement waste segregation, biomining, composting, and modern scientific waste processing across the region.
  4. Stop dumping fresh waste at Bandhwari once scientific processing and WTE systems are operational.
  5. Ensure transparent and accountable monitoring to protect residents, groundwater, and the Aravalli ecosystem.

Why Your Signature Matters

Your voice can push leaders to adopt global-standard waste management so we can ensure clean air, safe water, protected forests, and a healthier future for our children.

Sign this petition to demand immediate waste-to-energy action and transform Bandhwari from a toxic dump into a safe, sustainable, and clean future.
