The issue

As residents and ratepayers of the Barossa, we believe public office is a privilege that carries with it the responsibility to uphold the highest standards of integrity, respect and accountability.

The findings made against Councillor Bruce Preece, together with the reported expenditure of more than $80,000 in ratepayer-funded legal and administrative costs associated with these matters, have significantly undermined public confidence in his ability to continue representing our community.

At a time when Barossa residents are facing increasing council rates and ongoing cost-of-living pressures, many ratepayers are questioning why such a substantial amount of public money has been consumed addressing the conduct of a single elected member. Those funds could have been directed towards improving local roads, community facilities, infrastructure and other essential services that benefit the entire region.

We acknowledge that The Barossa Council has previously called on Councillor Preece to resign. This petition is intended to demonstrate that many members of the community continue to support that position and have lost confidence in his ability to effectively represent the people of the Barossa.

This petition is not about politics or personal differences. It is about accountability, responsible stewardship of public funds and maintaining public trust in local government.

We therefore call on Councillor Bruce Preece to resign from The Barossa Council and allow the Barossa community to move forward with leadership that reflects the values of integrity, respect and accountability.

By signing this petition, we stand together in support of transparent, responsible and community-focused leadership for the Barossa.
