Petition against water bill increase and salary hike for town board members
The Issue
Petition Against Water Bill Increase and Salary Hike for Niskayuna Town Board Members
We, the undersigned residents of Niskayuna, strongly oppose the recent decision by the town board to substantially increase water bills and the proposal to increase the salaries of town board members. These actions burden the community unjustly and raise serious concerns about fiscal responsibility and fairness.
Water Bill Increase: The sudden and significant rise in water bills places undue financial strain on residents, particularly those on fixed incomes or facing economic hardships. Such an increase without transparent justification or adequate public input is unacceptable. We demand a thorough explanation for this decision and urge the town board to reconsider its impact on the community's well-being.
Salary Hike for Town Board Members: increasing the salaries of town board members is unjustifiable, especially when many residents are struggling to make ends meet. Public service should be driven by a commitment to serve the community, not by personal financial gain. We believe that any adjustments to compensation must be reasonable and reflect the economic realities facing our town.
In light of these concerns, we call upon the Niskayuna town board to:
1. Immediately rescind the water bill increase and engage in transparent dialogue with residents to address concerns about water utility costs.
2. Reject the proposed salary hike for town board members and prioritize the needs of the community over personal financial interests.
3. Commit to greater transparency and accountability in decision-making processes, ensuring that the voices of all residents are heard and considered.
We, the residents of Niskayuna, deserve responsible and ethical governance that prioritizes the well-being of the community. We stand united in opposition to these unjust actions and demand accountability from our elected officials.
