The Issue

The Issue

CCSD has proposed a new school start time for the 2025–2026 school year affecting Districts 9, 10, and 23. This change was presented as a way to “promote greatness” and improve student outcomes. However, when a survey was distributed to gather community input, the results clearly showed strong opposition to this change. Despite the overwhelming disapproval from families and staff, the district appears to be moving forward with the plan.

Our Concerns

Changing school start times may seem like a small adjustment, but in reality, it will cause widespread disruption and hardship for families, students, and staff.

Transportation Chaos:

Many families rely on current bus routes, carpools, and public transportation schedules that will no longer align with the proposed start times.

Impact on Working Families:

Parents with strict work schedules will struggle to adjust drop-off and pick-up times, putting additional stress on households already balancing busy routines.

Effect on Students:

Sudden shifts in start times can affect students’ sleep schedules, focus, and after-school activities, including sports, jobs, and tutoring.

Disregard for Community Input:

The survey results showed clear opposition, yet the district is not honoring the voice of the majority — the very community it serves.
