This is not an anti traveller petition!!!!  This is simply against the proposed location of the new site and lack of consultation of both local and Thistlebrook residents. I have lived in Abbey Wood, near Church Manor Way, for many years and am deeply concerned about the proposed establishment of a new traveller site at the back of Abbey Wood Estate. As a long-term resident, I've witnessed the challenges our area already grapples with, and this development threatens to amplify these issues.

Firstly, access to the site is proposed via Church Manor Way, with capacity for up to 36 cars and 36 caravans, the proposed location will significantly impact our community, which already suffers from limited access to essential amenities such as shops and transport and the 2 local schools. Abbey Wood is a suburb with specific logistical challenges that are likely to be compounded by the development of a new traveller site, leading to increased strain on our limited resources.

Moreover, according to the local planning policy P5-TA6, this specific land does not support access by heavy vehicles. Ignoring these restrictions sets a dangerous precedent, disregards local regulations, and imposes potential risks related to transportation and infrastructure in the area.

It's also concerning that planning officers are relying on the outdated Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment from March 2016. In the 10 years since its publication, circumstances have changed drastically, and this outdated document is largely disregarded by other boroughs due to its irrelevance today. Relying on such a dated assessment ignores the modern dynamics and needs of both the existing community and traveller communities, failing to reflect contemporary needs and regional developments.

Our area deserves development projects that enhance living conditions, rationalize resource allocation, and genuinely reflect the current needs of all its people. We need planning decisions made with current data and genuine community input, not outdated statistics and misplaced reliance.

Local residents, schools, allotment holders, residents of the exiting traveller site Thistlebrook and other interested local parties not consulted or invited to  actively participate prior to the Council passing the Local Plan in December 2025. There apparently will be an opportunity to to attend a consultation meeting in August to voice concerns.

Abbey Wood is also home to the largest traveler site in London, Thistlebrook, so it seems excessive to have an additional site within the same borough.
