Petition Against the Development of 54 Residential Dwellings at Land Between Linslade Reservoir and 138, Soulbury Road, Linslade

To: Peter Vosper
Planning Department, Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands, Shefford, Bedfordshire, SG17 5TQ.

Dear Mr. Vosper,

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Linslade, hereby petition against the proposed development of 54 residential dwellings, comprising 36 houses and 18 flats, along with associated access, servicing, parking, amenity space, and landscaping at the land between Linslade Reservoir and 138, Soulbury Road, Linslade. This development poses significant risks and challenges to our community for the following reasons:

Environmental Impact

Destruction of Natural Habitats: The proposed development will lead to the destruction of local flora and fauna, disrupting ecosystems and reducing biodiversity in the area.
Increased Pollution: Construction and subsequent residential occupancy will increase air, water, light and noise pollution, adversely affecting the health and well-being of current residents.
Water Management Issues: The project may exacerbate water drainage problems, leading to potential flooding and strain on our existing water management infrastructure.

Community and Social Impact

Overcrowding: The addition of a large number of residential units will lead to overcrowding in local schools, parks, and community facilities, reducing the quality of life for current residents. A Section 106 and offering money to the NHS and educations will not solve the issues.

Traffic Congestion: Increased population density will result in heavier traffic, making our streets less safe and more congested, and increasing commute times.

Strain on Public Services: The development will place an additional burden on public services such as healthcare, emergency services, and waste management, which are already stretched thin and oversubscribed.

Economic Impact

Property Values: The character of our neighbourhood will change, potentially leading to decreased property values for existing homeowners. This part of Linslade is a lovely countryside area, and the proposed scheme is completely out of character. Merely a copy paste of all other new development around Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes and does not show good quality design.
Local Businesses: Small, local businesses may suffer from changes in the community's dynamics and customer base, disrupting the local economy.

Quality of Life

Aesthetic and Cultural Heritage: The development threatens to alter the historic and aesthetic character of our community, undermining its cultural heritage and identity.
Green Space Reduction: The loss of green spaces will diminish recreational areas and negatively impact mental and physical health for residents. There is no clear BNG demonstrated.
Recreation grounds: There is no thoughts to include green spaces for children to play safely.

Conclusion

We urge you, Peter Vosper, and the relevant authorities to reconsider the approval of this residential development. Instead, we advocate for development projects that align with sustainable growth principles, preserve our natural environment, and maintain the character and quality of life in our community.
