Petition Against Student Repression and Private Security at DePaul University

Petition Against Student Repression and Private Security at DePaul University
The Issue
For years, DePaul has favored property over students, employing security measures that disproportionately affect Black and Brown students while slapping diverse images on their brochures and advertisements. DePaul's "Vincentian" reputation came under the spotlight amidst the (ongoing) genocide in Palestine and establishment of the DePaul Liberated Zone encampment last year. As students exercised our rights and, more importantly, refused to condone paying for Zionist war crimes, the DePaul administration contracted multiple private security companies to collaborate with existing public safety officers in repressing us. Since the encampment was torn down, private pigs roam the campus, new cameras and sirens keep us under surveillance, and multiple antizionist student organizations face ridiculous sanctions based on falsified claims. We are paying for all of it.
Vice President Sherri Sidler oversees the security system and personnel contracts—the contracts that we don't get to know about. Combined with the estimated 3.5+ million dollar yearly cost of DPU Public Safety, DePaul students could be paying anywhere from 5-20 million dollars per year for multiple private security companies on campus and surveillance tech upgrades. p4 and Guardian, our new rent-a-pigs, have connections to the Zionist entity through their web of off-duty and retired cops, questionable business practices, and a willingness to follow DePaul's bias against Arab and Muslim students in their patrols. Are we going to allow the university to beat us into complicity with the military-industrial complex?
DePaul SDS calls for Sherri Sidler and the Office of General Council, as well as the entire DePaul administration, to:
Immediately end the contracts with private, cop-collaborating, pro-Zionist private security companies Guardian and p4
End the Sanctions on Students for Justice in Palestine and Jews 4 Justice with a public statement addressing the lies and bias that led to them
Stop the repression of student protests and expressions against genocide
The more they try to silence us, the louder we will be! Free Palestine!
