Petition Against High-End Hotel and Convention Center Development

To: Board of Mayor and Aldermen of Hendersonville

We, the undersigned citizens of Hendersonville, strongly oppose the proposed development of a high-end hotel and convention center on the 105 acres of vacant land along Stop 30 Road between Drakes Creek Road and New Shackle Island Road.

Reasons for Opposition

  • Preservation of Residential Zoning: The land in question is currently zoned for 194 single family homes, and we believe that maintaining this zoning is crucial for the character and integrity of our community.
  • Impact on Local Infrastructure: The proposed development would require significant infrastructure investments, which may disrupt the existing infrastructure and lead to increased traffic and congestion in the area.
  • Community Sentiment: In previous meetings, the citizens of Hendersonville have expressed strong opposition to such development in this area, and we continue to stand against it.
  • Lack of Detailed Plans: The Resolution 2025-21 does not authorize rezoning but only expresses general support for exploring the concept. We believe that any development should be backed by detailed plans and thorough discussions with the community.

Call to Action
We urge BOMA to reject the Resolution 2025-21 and to preserve the residential zoning of the land along Stop 30 Road. We ask that any future development plans be transparent and inclusive of community input, ensuring that the needs and sentiments of Hendersonville’s citizens are prioritized.

We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your support in preserving the character and integrity of our community.

Thank you for bringing to my attention your concerns as expressed in this petition. At this time, I remain undecided on the resolution. I believe it’s essential for elected officials to approach these matters with an open mind — listening carefully to the information presented, hearing from residents, and weighing all sides before making a decision. My commitment is to do what’s best for the community, and I plan to consider both the presentation at Tuesday’s meeting and the concerns raised by constituents as part of that process. Thank you again for being engaged and sharing your thoughts. Sincerely, Rachel Collins Alderman, Ward 5 City of Hendersonville
