We, the undersigned parents and guardians of students attending the German University in Cairo (GUC), hereby submit this petition to express our deep concern and opposition to the recent dramatic increase in tuition fees imposed by the university administration.

It has come to our attention that the university has implemented a significant rise in tuition fees, far exceeding the modest annual increases that have been customary in previous years. This sudden and drastic escalation in fees has placed an undue financial burden on students and their families, many of whom are already struggling to meet the rising costs of living amidst the economic challenges facing our country.

We believe that such a substantial increase in tuition fees is unjustifiable, particularly given the lack of consultation with the student body and their families, and the failure to consider the financial hardships experienced by many households. Moreover, this sharp rise in fees undermines the accessibility and affordability of higher education, which should be a fundamental priority for an institution committed to academic excellence and inclusivity.

Therefore, we respectfully request the following:

Immediate Reversal of the Fee Increase: We urge the university administration to reverse the recent tuition fee hike and revert to the previous fee structure, which allowed for more manageable annual increases.
Transparency and Consultation: We demand greater transparency and accountability in the decision-making process regarding tuition fees. The university should engage in meaningful consultation with students, parents, and guardians before implementing any future changes to fee structures.
Consideration of Economic Hardship: We call upon the university to consider the economic circumstances of students and their families when determining tuition fees, and to implement measures to support those who are financially disadvantaged.
Commitment to Accessibility: We implore the university to reaffirm its commitment to providing accessible and affordable higher education to all students, regardless of socioeconomic background.
