Petition 91, Limit the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP)

Petition 91, Limit the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP)
The Issue
As a Canadian citizen witnessing the increasing burden of taxes and inflation year after year, I am equally disturbed by the fact that our government is allocating a significant portion of our public funds to the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) for refugees and immigrants. While assisting newcomers is a commendable effort, the current level of aid raises serious concerns about financial prudence and overall economic sustainability.
In 2021-22 alone, the IRCC spent over $200 million on the Resettlement Assistance Program, and this amount continues to rise, putting significant pressure on Canadian taxpayers. The average monthly allowance per refugee under this program was approximately 5,000 CAD per month per refugee.
While we acknowledge the importance of supporting those in need, we must also consider the financial strain on existing citizens. To earn 5,000 CAD per month as a Canadian citizen, one would need to make approximately 80,000 CAD pre-tax. Subsidizing this amount for refugees places an unfair burden on Canadian taxpayers. Therefore, we call on the government to review the Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) and consider measures to reduce or limit its funding in future budgets. This is not a call for inhumanity, but rather a plea for fiscal responsibility and fair burden-sharing.
Please show your support by signing this petition to limit the funding of the RAP by the IRCC.
