Petion the Connellsville School Board to amend the school dress code.

Petion the Connellsville School Board to amend the school dress code.
The Issue
The Connellsville area school district enforces a dress code that almost exclusively impacts our daughters and is costing them valuable class time. Parents are routinely called away to bring a change of clothes. These infractions of the dress code are often very minut and would be considered acceptable for some students are not for others. This is largely due to the fact that "every body" is different and while one student may have longer arms and legs another may have a longer torso, but both are the same height and both held to the same antiquated metric. Given this fact the student with longer arms would have to wear shorts that come half way down her thighs while the student that has the longer torso could wear shorts that barely covering her buttocks.
The dress code in the Connellsville area school district is out dated and need clear, standard measurements. Using a girl fingertips to determine if her shorts are long enough is neither fair nor standard. We stopped using body parts for measuring units a long long time ago. This policy has been an issue of contention between students and their parents and educators for far too long. Standardize the measurement of fabric to commonly used units and commonly available styles of the current time in which the student is attending school. This will require yearly evaluation on the part of the board.
Students and parents are fed up with the our girls being overwhelmingly targeted for wearing shorts on some of the hottest days of the year, during what is an already, overwhelming time of the school year and their young lives in general. We need to pull together, hammer home to the board that they need to make this a priority or they will no longer be the ones occupying the school board seats.
