To the Councillors of Peterborough City Council,

On Wednesday 29th July, you will be asked to vote on Motion 12 "To conduct an audit of street names and any public monuments or other buildings this Council is responsible for which name individuals or organisations, to review any that have racist links."

We, the undersigned, wish to express our strong hope that you will vote against this motion.

We want to reassure you that there are many millions of people across our country who do not believe that our history and heritage should be either destroyed or altered. There are not many public voices currently speaking for this silent majority, but please do not mistake that for apathy. Or, worse, believe that the people of Peterborough or the UK support the current run-away cancel culture. They do not.

There is no public majority calling for this review. It will not be the end, but will only lead to further trouble and division. A minority currently has a loud voice, but our duty is to preserve our collective heritage and identity. We are but custodians of our history.
