The Issue

The Mayor declared a State of Emergency on March 23rd, 2020
The city of Peterborough made drastic changes to its entire transit system on June 28th 2020. The city failed to consult with elected city councilors & failed to consult with transit users. City added 3 community buses & changed every bus route name & number. These changes attacked the most vulnerable in our city- seniors, Persons with Disabilities, Low income tenants & citizens working 2-3 minimum wage jobs. We, transit users did not ask for Community buses & the city has no right to dictate where when how & what  times we work shop or socialize.

SPEAK UP  NOW BEFORE COUNCIL VOTE A FINAL TIME ON SEPTEMBER 28TH TO LEAVE THE ROUTE AS IS UNTIL APRIL 2021.

Frustrated bus passengers are spending a lot of money on cabs or bumming rides from family & friends or buying cars. Transit users are forced to walk 4-8 blocks to a bus stop & it takes  4- 6 hours to shop. A transit user bus trip now takes double or longer .  Community buses only run one way, and no evening service and buses run hourly. It is difficult to figure out transfer points from a Community bus to a Regular bus.
Maps are hard to read and no times are posted on the map. There are 6 buses going to Trent University & Fleming College. Council Committee meeting, September 14th, 2020, council voted to keep the transit routes the same to end of April 2021 to accommodate the students. The  city staff report stated students had found housing and jobs and wanted the new routes to stay the same. These new routes favor students. Many citizens are reporting seeing empty buses running bumper to bumper all over the city. Transit users are extremely worried about winter conditions & feel these new routes will be dangerous in winter. Accessibility for walkers and wheelchair was an afterthought and problematic.
