Let Cleo Stay and Support Fair Treatment of Our Community Members!

The issue

Hi my name is Cleo and I live in South Hedland, WA. I am 3 years old and I admit, I'm a social butterfly with an escape problem. My parents love me. I am a part of their family and I even have an 18 month old baby brother that I love playing with. I love other dogs and I have never attacked or shown aggression towards anyone on my adventure trips around town.

My parents have been working with the Rangers to help me with my escape issue. We are all under the same belief that having me wander is not desirable and I need to be with my family where I am safe and loved. I now wear this new collar that I hate! It beeps and causes me so much pain when I go near the fence that I cry. But it has taught me I am not allowed to jump the fence anymore and it has been a very long time since my last adventure. My parents were reluctant to get it for me as they think it's cruel. But the Rangers of Port Hedland gave my Mum no other choice and it is working a treat no way do I want to get shocked anymore!

However, My mum received a letter not long after I started wearing the collar they requested I wear and now my Mum is fighting for me.

This letter states that they are not happy with me being in town. And I must be rehomed in another town or possibly put to sleep.

On top of not being able to go on my adventures anymore, I am kind, well natured, obedient, and gentle. I do not understand why I must be rehomed with a new family, far away from my current family who have had me since I was just a baby! If my parents can't find me a new home, the Rangers say they will take me against my family's will and possibly put me to sleep.

This makes my parents very sad. They have done everything the Rangers have ever asked, they themselves have always been kind and cooperative with the Rangers. I have watched  them jump through hoops to fix my escape paths, and even be approved on three separate fence inspections! They have paid a lot of money for my new collar which is now working so I don't know why they have received this letter and refuse to withdraw it despite proving that I cannot leave my home without my Mum's permission.

My Mum has spent a long time fighting this for me. And so far she has not succeeded. The Rangers and the Council (including the mayor) have done nothing but prolong responses to herself, her delegate and her Legal Aid in order to make it harder for her. They have treated her and myself like we don't matter. Like our family doesn't matter.

I am even attacked under my own fence by a very mean dog who escapes his home on my street quite frequently and despite my Mum reporting it many times, it has never been dealt with. What if the nasty dog attacked my baby brother one day? Why are we not being treated fairly?

All I would really like is to stay with my family and to be treated fairly by the Port Hedland Council. I am tired of seeing my Mum upset and although I love being extra spoilt by her I know it is because she thinks she will never see me again.

Please show your support for me and my family by signing this petition and stand up against bullying by the local government. I am just one issue in a line of issues I know a lot of other people in town have. By signing this you are not saying you have an issue but saying you don't believe we are being treated fairly and agree that the Council should withdraw this notice so that I can stay with my family.

Thank you,

Cleo xx
