Revert Petco Logo Back to Original

The Issue

Petco’s new logo is extremely mundane and lifeless.  They took out the red lettering of the word ‘Petco’, but most importantly they removed Ruff and Mews, the red dog and blue cat sitting next to each other to the right of the lettering. There is nothing fun about their new logo, which is just the word ‘Petco’ in dark blue lettering.  The recent logo change makes me believe that Petco is transforming into a more modern company, when in reality they are just a pet store.  I understand that many companies are switching to a more modern look to keep up with the changes in society, but Petco is a pet store and it does not make sense for them to change.  It is honestly sad to see a beloved childhood store completely disregard the opinions of their customers and change their appearance to a dull and effortless outlook that appeals to nobody’s preference.  The new logo takes away from the happiness and excitement one feels as they walk into a Petco. If Petco ran a nationwide survey, it is more than likely they would find that very few people actually like the logo change.  Furthermore, I did some research, and according to crazyegg.com, there is an emotional effect that the previous Petco colors may have provided for the customers.  85% of customers prefer items that come in color, and color is a primary preference in their choice of item or store.  On top of this, crazyegg.com states that the color red portrays excitement and energy among customers, while blue implements a feeling of intelligence and serenity.  Although taken for granted, Petco did an excellent job with their original logo that included Ruff and Mews and it stood out from the rest of the other companies when it was in place.  However, the new logo does not stand out at all and I would not be surprised if Petco’s business begins to decline because of it.  Moreover, a friend of mine, human psychologist Dr. Dylan Q. Nguyen, predicts that the Petco industry will soon become obsolete due to the controversial logo change.  All in all, Petco made a questionable decision to switch to a more modern logo and it would be beneficial to them and their customers if they switched back to the original.  Sign this petition to assist Petco in realizing their mistake and reverting back to the original logo.  I hope this angered everybody else as much as it did me and I hope Petco makes the right decision for the future of their business.
