Petco - Return the Donation Bins to Help local Animal Shelters & Rescues

The Issue

Petco is a great local pet supply store. Besides the good products and nice employess, the main reason for being a consumer, is their dedication to help the local shelters and rescues with their donation bin. Recently Petco made a corporate decision to remove the donations bins from all of their stores.

Personally, I noticed this visually upon entering the store but moreover, I am a rescue volunteer for a local animal rescue and the food donated in the store helps cats within the rescue organization and their foster network. As a foster volunteer, I foster approximately 50 - 75 cats a year and the deletion of the donations, has a devastating effect.

As just one volunteer of many in the Washington, DC Metro area of Northern Virginia, I can't imagine how many other shelters and rescues nationwide, this has had a detrimental impact to, especially as all rescues and shelters are already struggling with helping so many in need.

There are approximately $70 Million homeless animals in the U.S. with an annual intake of 10% into local shelters, of those, almost 1 Million are euthanized. Local animal rescues work with area shelters and save animals from euthanasia by taking those most at risk into local rescue networks, which are volunteer based.

I am creating this plea for community support to encourage Petco to return the donation bins, which directly benefit local animal shelters and rescues.
