Change company policy on the care of reptiles

Change company policy on the care of reptiles
The Issue
*Sand is being used in bearded dragon, gecko and like reptile terrariums in their stores which can cause impaction. This also misinforms the new pet owner on proper care and husbandry for the reptiles, which can lead to high vet bills and/or death of the animal.
*Petco should ensure ALL snakes are eating on a regular schedule BEFORE adopting them out... I myself have received two snakes from Petco with feeding issues who were severely skinny and underfed. I also observed a dead snake (pictured) at Petco last week who was so thin it brought tears to my eyes. When I asked the employee why he was for sale if he was sick, the employee stated that the snake had just eaten (there is no way that was correct) but had no record of it actually occurring. Upon further inspection of the snake, it was confirmed that the snake was dead. Our local Petsmart keeps feeding schedules of all snakes and provides them to the new pet owner at time of adoption.
*The care of chameleons is also a huge concern. We observed the chameleons with a bowl of water (these reptiles do not recognize standing water as "water"). We also observed a chameleon being sold to an older gentleman with 3 small children - the employee did not provide them with a care sheet, information on the animal (which is more advanced in care than some other reptiles) and without proper lighting.
*Employees are not educated on proper care of all reptiles. I have witnessed time and time again of a Petco employee selling a reptile with incorrect information provided, or zero information on the animal. There have been many times I've had to correct a Petco employee on their advice to a customer.
**I believe that Petco should CEASE from selling all reptiles until proper care and protocols should be followed. Too many animals are put into danger with their improper care!! THINGS HAVE GOT TO CHANGE. Until then, we will boycott their stores all together.
