The Issue

As residents of the Coram Gardens area of Shelton City, we lack a community park where we can engage in passive recreation activities. The absence of a dedicated recreational area has deprived us, the residents, valuable opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, interact with our community, and spend quality time with our families.

We propose a solution that solves this problem by transforming the Ivy Brook Greenway into a designated municipal park. Currently, there is a myriad of open, unbuilt spaces around Ivy Brook Greenway; an area incredibly rich in natural biodiversity and a de facto space for residents to enjoy the outdoors. Formalizing this greenway as a park would secure and enhance its current use for the community.

According to the National Recreation and Park Association, parks significantly contribute to the quality of life in the communities they serve, providing venues for physical activity, facilitating social interaction, and aiding in tackling obesity (Sources: NRPA). Unfortunately, the residents of Coram Gardens do not enjoy these benefits due to the absence of a park in our area. Creating a park around Ivy Brook Greenway could potentially improve our health, well-being, and social cohesiveness of our community.

The city of Shelton must acquire all the unbuilt lots and lands around Ivy Brook and designate it as a city park. This initiative would ensure that these spaces remain as recreational open areas for all residents, a decision reflecting our shared communal benefit.

We urge residents of Shelton City to support this call for open green spaces in Coram Gardens. Please sign this petition and help us convert Ivy Brook Greenway into a designated municipal park for the benefit of our community.
