Permit Wellbeing and Service Dogs at Imberhorne School

Permit Wellbeing and Service Dogs at Imberhorne School
The Issue
My personal experience and numerous studies have shown the boundless benefits of wellbeing dogs in school settings. They markedly lessen stress and anxiety, promote social interactions, boost student confidence, and help foster a warm atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Dogs don’t just have a positive impact on students – they can also significantly contribute to the mental well-being of staff.
In schools across the globe, wellbeing dogs have already proven their worth. A study by Virginia Commonwealth University shows that employees who bring their dogs to work exhibited lower stress levels throughout the day, reported higher levels of job satisfaction, and perceived greater organisational support. More importantly, dogs contributed a positive value to their overall work experience (Chen, 2017).
Imberhorne School had two lovely well being dogs however they are currently banned due to the complaint of one parent. With a sensible approach and suitable risk assessments Imberhorne School, should not rob our students and staff of the potential benefits that these dogs may bring. It’s high time we allow wellbeing and service dogs back into our school again. A more content, socially-flourishing, and mentally healthy environment can be within our grasp with these furry pals around.
They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. But we know this does not apply to our human ability to learn, grow, adapt, and care. I believe by integrating such a change, we can turn the school into a beacon of understanding and empathy.
Let's end the stigma surrounding mental health. Let's open our doors to wellbeing and service dogs. Support this petition, sign it today and join us for a happier, healthier Imberhorne School.
