I have felt the impact of the rising food prices and the uncertainty surrounding our economy, just like many of you have. This has illuminated the value and necessity of urban homesteading. The role chickens can play in this can be critical, providing a cost-effective and sustainable source of nutrition in the form of eggs and meat. This further underlines the need for self-sustenance in these difficult times.
Sadly, the city of Temple Terrace doesn't currently allow the keeping of chickens, despite other urban centers recognizing the benefits. For example, New York City and Los Angeles allow backyard chickens, with rules in place to ensure they are kept humanely and without causing a nuisance to neighbors.
