Permit Residents to Raise Chickens on Their Property

Permit Residents to Raise Chickens on Their Property
The Issue
For many, like myself, chickens prove to be of great value. Not just as the provider of fresh eggs, rich in nutrients compared to store bought ones, but also as sustainable pest control agents, natural fertilizer producers, food sources, and even as service animals assisting with health conditions such as anxiety and depression.
Imagine waking up to fresh eggs every morning for breakfast or using your pets to boost your mental health. The benefits of raising chickens are numerous, yet in our locality, a permit is needed to do so. Establishing regulations that only benefit a fraction of residents and ignore the simple aspirations of others only creates a divide within the community.
According to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, chickens also have a lower impact on the environment compared to other livestock - decreasing our carbon footprint (AHDB, 2015). Their manure improves soil fertility, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. More so, chickens love eating pests, an eco-friendly alternative to commercial pesticides.
This petition is a call for change and progress towards sustainability and inclusivity. Let's make it possible for all members of our community to experience the benefits of raising chickens on their property without the bureaucracy of acquiring permits. Sign this petition and support the freedom to have chickens in all residences.
