The Issue

Raising backyard chickens is an eco-friendly practice with numerous benefits, such as providing fresh eggs, reducing food waste, and encouraging organic pest control. Yet, our city regulations ban it. Data from the United States Department of Agriculture, published in 2014, indicates that many urban dwellers are interested in keeping chickens, but prohibitive laws are impinging upon this level of autonomy in sustainable living. We are petitioning for a reconsideration and amendment to these laws. Considering their low noise level, limited space requirements, and benefits of backyard poultry, it is unjust to deny citizens this right. This is a call to our city council: Please revise our city regulations to allow chickens in residential areas! Sign this petition to help change these outdated laws and support local and sustainable living.
