Permit Cell Phone Use During Lunch and Nutrition at Pacific Palisades Charter High School.

The Issue

This is a concerned student of Pacific Palisades Charter High School who believes that cell phone usage during lunch and nutrition should be permitted. I believe this gives us the opportunity to unwind, relax, and reconnect with our friends and family. Our contention is that using phones during school breaks never hurt anybody.

It's been noted by researchers, including those at the University of California, Irvine, that taking short breaks, including using cell phones, can significantly improve focus and efficiency (‘Brief and rare mental ‘breaks’ keep you focused: Deactivation and reactivation of task goals preempt vigilance decrements’, Ariga & Lleras, 2011). Rather than lead to distraction, allowing students the freedom to use their phones during breaks could enhance their overall performance at school.

Furthermore, we live in an era where technology plays a significant role in our lives, and high school is a platform where students learn to balance their personal life and academic life. Having the right to use our cell phones during break times is a step towards learning this balance.

Let's not undermine the potential benefits here; it's about creating a more relaxed, less stressful environment where students feel valued and respected. Let's uphold the rights of students to use their cell phones responsibly during lunch and nutrition times at Pacific Palisades Charter High School. Please sign this petition to advocate for this change.
