Permit Annie Lewis To Lay Her Beloved Dogs To Rest At The Sanctuary

Permit Annie Lewis To Lay Her Beloved Dogs To Rest At The Sanctuary

The Issue

We Demand Monmouthshire County Council:  Returns the bodies of the 11 dogs believed to have been unlawfully killed during an AWA (2006) raid at Lost Souls Sanctuary Rogiet, Monmouthshire for burial or private cremation.

We Demand The Governments Of The United Kingdom Of Great Britain & Northern Ireland:  Ensure that no Local or Unitary Authority be permitted ever again to kill companion animals at a private home, in front of other animals and without the owner present.  To ensure euthanasia is only ever used as a last resort where clear welfare reasons have been established, eg where animals are proven to be so sick that moving them would cause unnecessary pain or suffering.

On 15/08/23, 11 dogs believed to have  been unlawfully killed by Officers of Monmouthshire County Council.  The dogs were killed at a private home in the presence of other dogs. Their owner was not permitted to be present to comfort the dogs or to say goodbye. The reason for the dogs being killed is unknown.

The bodies were removed from the site and Monmouthshire County Council is demanding ownership of the dogs be transferred to them.  The owner of the dogs is extremely traumatised and distressed by the killing of her beloved dogs.  She has repeatedly asked for the bodies to be returned so she can arrange for an appropriate individual cremation and burial.  The owner devoted her life to her dogs; these dogs were her family. Dog lovers all over the world will understand this and know how important pets can be to individuals.  It is vital to her healing process and mental health that she be given the chance to be able to say goodbye in a way of her choosing based on her beliefs and her relationship with them. There is no justification for the Council to retain the bodies.  To deny Annie this right would show further disregard for her well-being and be contrary to her human rights under Article 9 of the Human Rights Act 1998.
