Permit 35% Light Transmittance on Commercial Motor Vehicles

Permit 35% Light Transmittance on Commercial Motor Vehicles
The Issue
I am a truck driver, spending long hours under the hot sun and dealing with blinding lights from other vehicles in my rearview mirror at night. This is not just my struggle, but a common issue faced by many commercial drivers. We are calling for a change to allow 35% light transmittance on commercial motor vehicles.
Currently, regulations allow minimum tinting on our vehicle windows at 70%. However, this restriction does not adequately consider the health and safety implications for drivers like us who spend most of their day behind the wheel. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can lead to skin cancer; in fact, according to The Skin Cancer Foundation, professional drivers have a higher incidence rate of skin cancers on their left side due to exposure while driving (Skin Cancer Foundation).
Moreover, at night we often face dangerous levels of glare from other vehicles' headlights in our mirrors which can cause temporary blindness or eye strain. A study by RAC Foundation found that bright or high beam lights can significantly impair vision causing accidents (RAC Foundation Report).
Allowing 35% light transmittance would provide us with better protection against harmful UV rays and reduce glare from other vehicles without significantly reducing visibility.
We urge lawmakers and regulatory bodies to reconsider current restrictions and permit 35% light transmittance on commercial motor vehicles for improved safety and comfort of all professional drivers.
Please sign this petition if you believe in making these necessary changes for the well-being of our hardworking truckers.
