Permanantly Shutdown Ironwood in Maine!

Permanantly Shutdown Ironwood in Maine!
The Issue
Ironwood formerly known as Élan was closed down in April, 2011 due to the death of students such as Philip Williams Jr. at 15 years old. According to the US Department of Justice, punishments such as standing in the corner for days or fighting other students were used by adminstrators against the most resistant cases. This Boarding School was designed and advertised by parents as a guidance center to assist with troubled teens without leaving a stain on their record. Élan was located in Poland, Maine. It's rebranded current location is Morrill, Maine. Despite the tragic deaths, this Boarding School is still operating in the modern day.
Moreover, The Last Stop (2017) mentions the various living conditions and poor treatment of students while misleading parents of where they are sending their children. Thankfully, while Élan may be gone, the horrors of their actions thrive through this rebrand.
On their website, Ironwood mentions how they treat those with Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, Grief and Loss, Dual Diagnosis, Emerging Personality Disorders. This casts a wide net of people that can be hurt by this Boarding School. One person of many, named Julia, shared her story on breakingcodesilence.com. She mentioned how students were required permission to sit and stand. Punishments include isolation for small offenses such as refusing to eat oatmeal or requiring you to earn a pillow. All while charging parents $10,000.00 and cutting off contact with their children. This is toxic and needs to end. We need to shut down Ironwood. As a nation, we cannot enable the same cruelty under a different name.
