Stop animal poaching

The Issue

Poaching remains the key threat to the species' survival in Sabah, despite it being illegal and with heavy penalties for offenders. Very high prices of rhino horns and lack of opportunities for other lucrative sources of income in rural areas provide the incentive.Animal poaching and illegal tradings are the other two reasons why tigers are endangered in Malaysia and across the globe. This happens simply because of the greediness of some and the ignorance of others. Malayan tigers are poached due to the high demand for products made from tiger parts.

There is no single, silver bullet that alone can stop wildlife crime. Or even hope to significantly reduce it.

The answer is to adopt a broad approach that involves many tools and partners, and targets the entire trafficking chain. Only this will deter the criminals.

For too long, wildlife crime has been a relatively low risk, high return business. Which is why it has attracted the attention of transnational, organised criminals. It is time to make it much harder for them.

And that is the rationale behind the WWF and TRAFFIC wildlife crime initiative, which aims to:

Increase the EFFORT criminals need to make;
Increase the RISK for criminals; and
Reduce the REWARDS that can be gained from wildlife crime.

For example, animal poachers should be sentenced to death instead of just prison.

By helping me to sign this petition, we get to save wildlife animals from animal poachers. Thank you.
