"Perfect Crown" — Oppose the Complete Deplatforming
The Issue
**To All Global Streaming Platforms, Broadcast Networks, and the Creative Community,**
We, the global viewers and dedicated fans of the drama *Perfect Crown*, are writing this petition to express our deep concern over the severe backlash and calls for the complete deplatforming and erasure of the series. While we fully understand and respect the cultural and historical sensitivities raised regarding the coronation scene in Episode 11, we firmly believe that completely wiping this drama from existence is an extreme and unjust response.
#### **1. Acknowledging the Gravity of the Error**
We do not make light of the mistakes made by the production team. In a global media landscape, historical and cultural accuracy regarding national identity is paramount. The writer and director made a significant oversight regarding the ceremonial crown and court terminology. For a production of this scale, the lack of thorough historical research is a serious flaw and an unacceptable lapse in judgment. National identity and heritage must always be treated with the utmost diligence.
#### **2. Immediate Accountability Has Been Taken**
However, justice requires proportion. The production team, Director Park Joon-hwa, the writer, and lead actors IU and Byeon Woo-seok did not run from the issue. They issued immediate, deeply sincere public apologies. Furthermore, the production team took rapid accountability by actively editing out and correcting the controversial elements, subtitles, and audio for all streaming versions.
#### **3. Separate the Mistake from the Artists and the Entire Work**
Neither the drama as a whole, the writer, the director, nor the incredibly talented cast deserve the overwhelming, career-threatening vitriol they are currently facing.
* **The Cast and Crew:** Hundreds of staff members, lighting technicians, set designers, and supporting actors spent months poured their hearts into creating this beautiful visual story. Punishing the entire production for an oversight in the writing and design departments unfairly erases their honest, hard work.
* **The Lead Actors:** The actors delivered exceptional, emotionally moving performances. They are not responsible for historical fact-checking or script editing, yet they are bearing the brunt of public malice.
#### **4. A Plea for Artistic Freedom and Proportionate Response**
*Perfect Crown* was explicitly established as a 21st-century fantasy, an alternate-universe constitutional monarchy. While errors should be corrected—as they have been—completely erasing a massive artistic work sets a dangerous precedent of "over-cancellation" that will stifle future creativity and risk-taking in the K-drama industry.
### **Our Demand**
We support the corrections made to the episodes, but we fiercely oppose the total cancellation and removal of *Perfect Crown* from domestic and global platforms. We stand by the hard work of the cast and crew. Let us learn from this massive mistake to ensure better research in the future, but do not destroy the
art and the livelihood of those who created it.
