Perak state goverrnment: Reverse the decision to convert the Bikam forest reserve to plantation
The Issue
No more conversion of forest reserves to palm oil plantations in Perak!
The Perak state government's decision to convert the Bikam forest reserve to oil palm plantation is against the 2008 ruling by the Federal Government which states that forest reserves are not to be converted for oil palm plantations.
Bikam forest reserve is home to three endangered species of tree: keruing paya (Dipterocarpus coriaceus), merawan kelabu (Hopea glaucescens), and mata kucing beludu (Hopea myrtifolia). Once gone, we will lose a precious natural treasure that cannot be replaced. This treasure belongs to us, the people of Malaysia.
So we ask you, the Perak state government, to protect the forest reserves of Perak, and to reverse the decision to allow land use conversion at Bikam. Please act now, for the people of Malaysia!
