We have been informed today, 15 Feb 2021, that the inline hockey court has been selected to be a vaccination centre from 28th Feb to end of Oct 2021.

This means no inline hockey in Singapore for the next 8 months.

Although we completely support the Singapore government's efforts to roll out the vaccines to as many people as possible quickly. We do believe that there are many other alternative locations that can be used instead of our only inline hockey court in Singapore.

For example, here are a some possible locations:

• Tennis courts next to the inline hockey court at OTH (there are many available tennis courts in Singapore)
• Previous Tampines Central CC sports hall at blk 866A, tampines street 83, which has been vacated and unused for the last few years
• Air conditioned multi event halls at the OTH.
  Tampines Central CC event halls and rooms which are unused on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the OTH which were used previously for the mask distribution exercise.

All of these alternate locations can be secured and would be safer to store vaccines supplies and equipment rather than our hockey court which is only secured by a fence and combination number lock.

If the inline hockey court is to be used as a vaccine centre, we believe we should also be provided an alternative location with our fibreglass dasher boards and sport court flooring

Inline hockey in Singapore been played by a group of players passionate about the sport in our only inline hockey court in Singapore at Our Tampines Hub.

However inline hockey players are unable to play in the hockey court right now because the court has been used for other non sports activities like book fairs that have damaged the special sport court flooring which can cause players to trip and fall. The sport court flooring is not easily available in Singapore, and this is not the first time it has happened. It happened previously, and because of the difficulty in getting replacement tiles, and lack of response from the management of Our Tampines Hub and People's Association, the players themselves had to purchase the closest plastic tiles available and cut it to size to make the repairs themselves.

We believe the inline hockey court should be used primarily for inline hockey or should it be used for other sports, it should be for sports that would not damage the expensive sport court tiles. 

Inline hockey players should also be allowed to book the inline hockey court for trainings, competitions and hockey clinics at an affordable rate and not high and unaffordable corporate rates in order to hold a tournament.

It is the only inline hockey court in Singapore, and beloved by our local hockey players and supporters who with much effort volunteered their time to offer inline hockey clinics for kids, organise competitions and leagues and talked to the MPs, town council in order to keep the sport growing.

The original inline hockey court which was originally at the site of Our Tampines Hub was torn down in order to make way for OTH, and during the 3-4 years it took to build the OTH, inline hockey in Singapore had to come to a stand still as we waited for the OTH to be built with the promise that it would be replaced with a new court.

Before the court was torn down, Singapore has sent National Inline hockey teams to participate in the Men's and Women's FIRS World Championships and overseas tournaments through their own effort, money and fund raising. We would like to continue the development of inline hockey in Singapore and participate in the FIRS World Championships again. And in order to do so we need to have the facilities to train and compete in.

The new sheltered inline hockey court in OTH is indeed a dream come true and very precious for many of the inline hockey players in Singapore who have volunteered their time for the sport, but it's with great sadness that we are not able to use the inline hockey court now due to the damage, while other activities are like trampoline style aerobics is still carrying on in our inline hockey court.
