"We can be Heroes, just for one day". From Heroes by Eno/Bowie, cover by Hollywood Vampires.
Our local lawmakers have taken a stand to protect our environment to include our public lands, buffers, wetlands and streams in our neighborhoods. Please see their letter to WSDOT dated July 21, 2021. These leaders have brought to our attention and those who should be concerned the following facts:
1. Silver Lake Creek, which runs across the WSDOT property held as a mitigation site in perpetuity and private properties leading into Ruggs Lake, is a fish bearing stream requiring buffers and protection according to law. (For whatever reasons, this stream was previously mischaracterized as non fish bearing and declared so by PDS and the Ambleside developer.)
2. Ambleside’s proposed sewer would destroy a designated Category II wetland, urban forest colonnade and a buffer located on private property.
3. Ambleside’s request for a stormwater deviation waiver on the WSDOT mitigation site would cause it permanent damage and progressive dehydration of the Silver Lake Creek. This encumbrance would not be consistent with the code or environmental sensibility.
4. Unknown to others and apparently PDS, WSDOT was asked to explain the design revisions that the developer was making.
4. WSDOT was reminded that concerned citizens had asked permission to inspect the mitigation site. WSDOT refused this request but said if they did allow it the citizens would have to pay $2,500.00. The lawmakers renewed the citizen’s request to inspect the mitigation site without having to pay $2,500.00.
Please thank and support for Washington State Representatives Wicks, Lovick, and Berg and Snohomish County Councilmember Jared Mead for their efforts and commitment in preserving our environment and habitat in our own neighborhoods.
Make your voices known to PDS, WSDOT and our local elected officials. Also, please sign and share the petition!
