Keep the field below the MUGA

Keep the field below the MUGA
The Issue
The grassy land beyond the MUGA at The Hive (off Elliott Street) and down to the canal has been used by the local schools (Aire View & Hothfield – now Silsden Primary, which are currently housed on different sites) for many years for their PE lessons and Sports Days. As such, this land belongs to the education department of Bradford Council.
A new building is currently being constructed on the other side of Silsden to enable the whole school to be housed in one building. The new school will include a purpose-built sports area to enable them to conduct PE lessons and sports days on-site. Bradford Council are going to sell off both current school sites, as well as the land in question to fund the build.
The land is regularly used by local children (out of school hours, and home educators), local dog walkers to exercise their dogs and ourselves for out of school clubs, and the Community firework night, to name a few. This area is the only recreation ground in this part of Silsden. With the new houses currently being built in Silsden, it is critical that we keep some green space for our children to play.
We have requested that the land be nominated as an ‘Asset of Community Value’ and a meeting is set on Thursday 26th March at 6pm at Keighley Town Hall to consider this nomination. Please attend if you can and show your support.
We live in a rural part of Yorkshire and we are proud of our countryside. We are lucky our children can enjoy the space and have the freedom of play. Let’s not just build houses on every bit of green space we have, let's keep some for our Community.
Please sign our petition if you agree that this land should stay as it is and not be sold on.
