The Disappearance of The Local Fruits

This petition is proudly made by Grace, Georgio, Raffael, Iren, and Jose from the class 9 Habakkuk, a class in Saint John Catholic School BSD in the concern of the local fruit which is disappearing time over time.

Background

As time goes by, local fruits are now not as common as long time ago. In this millennial era, imported fruits are often seen and bought in the supermarket. Especially due to the globalization, fruits are easier to be imported from other countries. But what about our local fruits? Maybe some of you have tried kedondong, duku, cempedak, or durian, those are examples of local fruits. They are as beneficial and delicious as imported fruits and can be cheaper sometimes it is planted and harvested in our own country. By eating our country's fruits, we have preserved the traditional food of Indonesia. This way, our fruits can be known more even by other countries.

Problem, written by Jose

as you all know people nowadays are buying snacks instead of fruit and because the demand of these fruits are low, the need for farmers to plant those fruits, that means in 2016 the the fruit known as rambutan and durian decreased in population by 16% ,and because of that those fruits are almost extinct and we as “the people” need to help with the environment .and to help with the environment ,we would like to open this petition for the cause of the decreased fruit population ,it only takes a little bit to sign this petition and if you do sign it ,it will be very much appreciated .SAVE THE FRUITS!

Because of imported fruits become more and more common and the local fruits are becoming rare over-time, this causes a lots of impact to the locals and the environment itself. The first one is simple, local fruit sellers will eventually close their business because no one will not buy the fruits they offer, and mainly of the sellers have done this business for generations, so if they close their business, they will have a very little choice and eventually their family will no longer have income. Since local fruits is disappearing over-time, our childrens will maybe have no idea about our local fruit which is one of the thing that makes Indonesia recognized by other countries. When no one buys local fruits, the sellers will use the plant which produces the fruit more rarely and maybe don’t even care about them again and eventually they might become very rare and even worse, endangered.

Suggestion by Raffael Wisnu

There are a lot Indonesia fruits like manggis, durian, nangka, etc, we need to eat our local fruits because we need to feel proud of our country rich in fruits. If you are buying fruits just try to also buy local fruits buy at least half of the amount of fruit you buy, if you like fruit you will also like all fruits. Local fruits are way better because you will support our country, Indonesia. We need to plant more local fruits and protect it to prevent extinction. Make imported fruits limited, because of that more people will buy local fruits, especially during this time in the pandemic, we need fruits to maintain health.

Closure
Written by Iren

In conclusion, we truly hope that we can inspire you to promote local fruits better. Especially in this pandemic, imported fruits are quite expensive these days. You can eat local fruits that are far more cheaper than the imported ones and still can satisfy your tongue and stomach with its taste and nutrients. By doing that small little thing, you can help us to make local fruits more well-known around the world. Please help us by signing this petition if you find our suggestion interesting and helpful and don’t forget to share it to your friends, family, and other people so that the government can make a move on this problem and fix it.
