Put an end to the sick animals dying in the care of Petland
The Issue
Petland is a store located at 9404 Main St Fairfax, VA 22031 that sells puppies, birds, bunnies, guinea pigs and kittens. The puppies are kept behind glass windows with metal flooring, where their only source of water is large hamster bottles that drip down into the cages. The puppies go to the bathroom where they sleep, and are never ever walked. Right when you walked in you see the puppies behind the glass looking sick and tired, sleeping next to their own fecal matter that is not cleaned up regularly. The dogs are taken out of their cages only when a customer walks in and says that they want to play with the animal. The animals are then left with the customers with no store supervision what so ever, and small children poke and even drop the dogs. The store is located in walking distance from a school, and because of that groups of young students come in and mistreat the animals because no workers are watching them, or even giving them a beforehand instruction on what to do and not do when they have the animal. The kittens in the store are given no attention at all, and are kept in similar conditions as the puppies. Because no one comes in to play with the cats, they never leave their cage until they are purchased. The small animals such as the bunnies, guinea pigs and birds are glass containers with no tops, so that customers are able to hold and interact with the animals without asking permission. Kids come in and grab terrified bunnies and force them to be held, until they are harshly dropped back down. Every time you enter the store, the rodent cages will be filled with fecal matter and terrified animals that have urine stained paws. The birds are picked up throughout the whole day as well, and you do not have to ask permission or be monitored. They are terrified every time a hand goes near them, because most of the they are squished within someones hand, hurting their fragile skeleton. Petland is not a store that should be allowed to remain open, most animals sold from their store come back with a bad bill of health the first time the customers takes their newly purchased pet to the vet, and all of their dogs can be tracked from puppy mill styled environments. The selling of animals needs to be left to people and understand them and care about their welfare, not people willing to sell sick animals just to make a profit
