Use Garhwali and Kumaoni in the railway station boards of Uttarakhand

The Issue

The whole of demand of separate homeland for the hilly people of Uttarakhand was not just because we needed a separate state for "more development" but because we are culturally, ethnically and most importantly linguistically lot different from the rest of Uttar Pradesh. Our whole social fabric is different from that of the plains of the gangetic Doab. And that's why to preserve our unique cultural identity a new state was demanded.

We are majorly Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari speakers in this state but alas even after the formation of a new state, the state government never bothered to provide an official status to our languages. This is when the speakers of Garhwali and Kumaoni are lot more than that of Dogari and Nepali and both these languages have achieved a palace in the 8th schedule but not the languages of Uttarakhand. Forget being in official schedule, Laddakhi was not even an official language in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir but it has always been used in teh signboards of both private and government enterprises. Laddakhi I'd used in Leh airport for announcements as well.

Unfortunately that visibility was never given to Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari in their respective areas in Uttarakhand. Urdu was always unnecessary in the railway signboards of Uttrakhand ,as it was a baggage of the times times of this state being in UP however Sanskrit is equally useless for us, for no one speaks Sanskrit here. We need recognition, visibility and acceptability for the languages of Uttrakhand. In no way will we accept encouragement to others languages on the cost of our own languages. For Urdu there are already numerous states like  Uttar Pradesh (where it was born), Kashmir, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana to patronise it where it enjoys an official status but who will preserve and popularise our own languages ?? Not even our own state ?

We genuinely request the state government to start using Garhwali in Garhwal, Kumaoni on Kumaon and Jaunsari in Jaunsar areas areas of Uttarakhand. This can be very well started by replacing Urdu with Garhwali and Kumaoni in their respective areas.

Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsaris are languages no less important than any other Indian languages and they deserve their right place atleast in their state of origin.

I request all the Uttrakhandis and the people who care for the cause of our culture and languages to sign this petition.
