STOP THE GREED! Ban the Mining Activity in the Philippines

The Issue

The Philippine Government believes that a well-developed minerals industry is an option that can catalyze economic development and community empowerment. Minerals are part of its national patrimony, hence there is a big responsibility to maximize the benefits that can be derived from their utilization with due regard to the protection of the environment and without sacrificing the interests of communities.

The legal and administrative framework governing the minerals industry in the Philippines is contained in Republic Act No. 7942 (otherwise known as the Philippine Mining Act of 1995) and given flesh by its revised implementing rules and regulations (Administrative Order No. 96-40) and its subsequent amendments. These policies advocate the sustainable development of mineral resources in the country.

But the question, are these really happening?

As responsible citizen we all know what really happen now in our country and this kind of situation are not latent to us. Right? According to Stewart Udall “ Mining is like a search and destroy mission”. Mining is a kind of industry that is very controversial now to our country. Yet, It also very tremendous and destructive and it doesn’t have to be nor it doesn’t needed to. It has various advantages and disadvantages that affect the environment and the lives of every human being in the Philippines.

Mining is the process of digging mines to obtain minerals, metal, and jewel that serve as the livelihood to every human being. It gives people some of the resources needed for modern civilization and to gain higher government revenue, but it can lead to environmental harm as well as people’s health condition. Mining is one of the resources that mostly Filipino choose as their source of living wherein the miners use to dig in to get minerals such as gold and diamond. But, remember the real gold is within you. So, stop the greed, be responsible. Indeed, wake up to the reality that mining is just a destroyer of our brighter future.

In the Republic Act RA 7942 law or the Philippine Mining Act that speaks about the environment act in land, air and water if a person is responsible and not maintaining the growth of natural resources. But definitely mining has a lot of disturbances that could trigger the crisis that is rampant now in the country. Just like every time there is landslide and floods that soften the soil in the mountainous part and pollution that can harm the environment and living species. It could cause risks to the environment and to the people that can lead to risks in lives.

In conclusion, mining should be ban nor stop so that destruction of environment and risks in lives will be minimize and the lives of next generation will be save, more enjoyable and preserve. Again, “Mining is like a search and destroy mission. Stop Falling, Stop Listening, Stop Hesitating, Stop Getting your Hopes Up, Stop telling this one’s different. You have heard this story time to time before, you know how it ends. He's playing that game and you are losing” Hopes this quote help us enlighten our mind and bear it upon us to decide decision about this kind of concerns in the country. Made your choose now! Be yourself, Save the Mother Earth, Save the future, Stop the Greed! Help us to make this petition possible. Change is in your hand spread it by supporting us. Thank you!
