The Sachem has been the mascot at Pentucket for generations and there is currently talk from a lot of people to retire the Sachem. The Sachem is a proud tradition at Pentucket that honored the history of the area. A sachem was the leader of the Penacook tribe of indigenous people who lived in the area for generations. At Pentucket, we strive to be like the Sachem and to be leaders within our own communities. The name is not discriminatory but rather history that Pentucket students, without even knowing it, embrace every time they enter the classroom, run on the field, or star on the stage. History is not wrong and by removing Sachem as the Mascot of our school we are disregarding everything learned in history class. That we recognize and embrace our history. Our history is important and it means more to the school community to have our school represented with the history of our town's rather than a mascot that has no meaning.
