The Human Resources & Services Administration reported “95% of U.S. adults support organ donation, but only 54% of people are registered as organ donors.” This petition is to change the state of Pennsylvania to become an opt-out state for organ donation, which means all residents of Pennsylvania would be automatically registered as an organ donor unless they registered to opt-out. This petition is not eliminating the choice for organ donation, it is simply reversing the registration process. The American Transplant Foundation stated, “Almost 115,000 people in the United States are currently on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ transplant. Another name is added to the national transplant waiting list every 10 minutes. On average, 20 people die every day from the lack of available organs for  transplants.” Therefore, let’s help make a difference and have Pennsylvania become the first state that is an opt-out state for organ donations.
