Petition to the Penfield Town Board

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, HEREBY PETITION the Penfield Town Board to reconsider approving a COSTCO store and gas station to be located on Route 250.

We are residents of Penfield, NY, a quaint residential/rural area known for its warm community and mixed-use zoning. It has come to our attention that a Costco is planned for the Route 250 location, and we believe there are serious implications that need to be reconsidered. We voice our concern as we think a "Big Box" company such as Costco doesn't harmonize with the Mixed Use idea for our area. 

Not only would the character of our neighborhood be compromised, traffic is another pertinent issue. Being a sparsely populated locale, heavy traffic influx can create unnecessary inconvenience to residents and worsen environmental pollution. 

The Comprehensive Plan for Penfield outlines a vision to "Preserve and enhance the rural/residential character of the Town." (source: Town of Penfield Comprehensive Plan). Introducing an enormous commercial enterprise into our rural/residential mix contradicts this vision. 

We request the town officials to reconsider the proposed location of Costco, to listen to our concerns, and safeguard the unique character of  Penfield. We ask not just for ourselves but for the generations to come, who we hope will experience the same Penfield we know and love. We simply seek to protect our town's future.
