Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA) is a national student organization that promotes higher education, cultura, and historia. MEChA was founded in 1969 out of the Chican@ movement, on the principles of self-determination for the liberation of our people. We believe that political involvement and education is the avenue for change in our society.

The University of Wisconsin - Madison MEChA chapter has been housed at 710 University Ave for 38+ years, where we offer our direct service and student art program, CulturARTE,to the UW-Madison Campus.   The MEChA office space has played a critical role in providing safe space to Chican@, Latin@, and other students of color on campus, and is essential to the recruiting and retaining of students of color.

On August 16, 2010 the MEChA office will be demolished.

We are counting down the days until Chancellor Biddy Martin has a transparent meeting with MEChA. 

Our Demands:

-       A face to face meeting with Chancellor Biddy Martin by May 14th, to talk about the future of the MEChA space!

-    A new space of equal dimensions for MEChA on the UW Campus
