As most of may know, the old Sir Thomas Picton building is going to be knocked down, including the school hall which has many years of musical memories. The architects for the new school have offered to build a new school hall but it won’t be the size and won’t include the same features. At the moment the hall can fit 800 people. It is the second biggest hall in Pembrokeshire and the biggest school hall. It is central in Pembrokeshire and lots of community events have used it, BBC National Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, County Orchestra and Pembrokeshire Stage Coach to name a few. Haverfordwest is a central venue for ALL schools. The hall was amazing for hosting school and County concert. For productions, the school hall has an amazing behind the scene area, it has lots of room for different backdrops, a high-tech lighting system and it has a pit for the orchestra. The school hall was built with the dual purpose of being the County Theatre, with orchestra pit, dressing rooms at the back and all the stage accessories, with the high ceiling.Please sign this petition, we need to give the future pupils of Haverfordwest High VC School the same opportunities which all of the past pupils of Sir Thomas Picton, Taskers Milwards and the rest of the county had. Please sign this to keep our hall or be given one the same size. We cannot settle for an “auditorium” build if we want to keep our community spirit and musical professionalism. We need our stage area and amazing features that come with it!
